About 'The Collector' - Neil McGregor

When I started collecting stamps it was a popular hobby amongst my generation, especially as I was at boarding school, and the weekends could be long. Sports and hobbies were very necessary to keep young minds from getting too bored - and in too much trouble!
Fast forward 50 years and my passion for NZ stamps continues. In the last few years I have begun to realise that I had accumulated a 'fair' collection, as well as a reasonable level of knowledge, and so the idea of sharing both became inspiring. I refer to this accumulation as 'The Collection' as it's short and everybody knows to what I refer.
When one looks at the history of NZ and the issue and use of it stamps, there is an intertwining relationship that represents a rich vein of whakapapa (personal history and belonging) that is more than just interesting - it's powerful - and I so I will attempt to link the two a little through some story telling.
My primary aim with this web site is to share 'The Collection' in a way that I hope people find interesting and perhaps even useful. In no way do I claim to be an expert, or that 'The Collection' is better than anyone else's. There are many folks who know more than I ever will and there are collections of great beauty out there - some known and some unknown - each to their own.
In fact one of my motivations for sharing my collection and perspective is to start a discussion and to learn more from others. So if you can add to, or correct my thoughts, please do not hesitate to reach out, I'm keen to learn.
